It’s hard to know what to expect from Predators, the revival of the long-dormant franchise that came to an abrupt end in the early 1990s with the death of Kevin Peter Hall, who portrayed the eponymous hunter. Is it a remake, a legitimate sequel or one of those remakes we all know and love?
No one knows quite what to expect from director Nimród Antal (previously responsible for the above-average thriller Vacancy) and producer Robert Rodriguez (Sin City), although the presence of a competent cast (Adrien Brody, Danny Trejo, Laurence Fishburne) may ease some fans minds.
SXSW Film 2010 may help to clear the air, as both Antal and Rodriguez will be on hand to give a sneak peak of footage from the highly anticipated movie. “A bold new chapter in the Predator universe, Predators was shot on location under Rodriguez’s creative auspices at the filmmaker’s Austin-based Troublemaker Studios, and is directed by Nimród Antal,” explains the official site of the event, which will be presenting both the producer and director to an audience of eager fans on March 12, 2010 at the Alamo Ritz Theater in downtown Austin (where Rodriguez is based).
Despite his uneven career, Rodriguez has gained a loyal following over the last fifteen years due to the success of such classics as El mariachi, From Dusk Till Dawn and Grindhouse. The movie is scheduled for release this July.
