I must admit I am not the world’s biggest Orlando Bloom fan so I can’t say I am ever excited when I hear he has a new movie in the works. The Lord of the Rings bored me and I found Pirates of the Caribbean irritating. In fact, the only thing to date that I have liked him in was Extras, in which he played himself opposite comedian Ricky Gervais.

But his latest project, The Good Doctor, just might have potential, especially when The Hollywood Reporter have dubbed it a ‘Hitchcockian thriller.’ Bloom is to portray a young doctor who, after gaining confidence from one of his patients, decides to ruin her treatment so she will be forced to remain at the hospital. Uncovering the truth, an orderly (Troy Garity) attempts to blackmail him in return for painkillers, whilst Courtney Ford plays a woman with an interest in the doctor.

The movie is to be directed by Lance Daly (previously known for the Irish dramas The Halo Effect and Kisses) and based on a script by John Enbom (Veronica Mars). Production commences later this week in Los Angeles and is to be produced by Bloom, Jonathan King (Dreamgirls) and Dan Etheridge (also of Veronica Mars).

The cast will be rounded off with support from J.K. Simmons, Taraji P. Henson and Rob Morrow.
