One of the first movies I ever saw back in the early 1980s was Tron. Steven Lisberger’s groundbreaking Disney sci-fi flick that saw Jeff Bridges enter the virtual world of computer games and battle his nemesis, David Warner, in the world’s first CGI motion picture. As of late, the technology has gotten a little out of hand and now filmmakers use it as a substitute out of pure laziness (Flash Forward featured a digital helicopter, for crying out load!), but the return of the one that started it all is enough to be at least a little curious.
Those who have just woken from a twelve-month coma may be interested to know that Disney now has a sequel in the works. Entitled Tron Legacy and once again featuring Bridges as programmer Flynn, this has been tipped as the Avatar of 2010 (despite the fact that we’re in the second month and people are still going to watch it). Add to that an electronic score from Daft Punk and support from the likes of Michael Sheen and John Hurt, this could be one of the most exciting projects of the year.
Initially feared to have been yet another unnecessary sequel, fans were excited to see Bridges finally reviving his role, and MTV have scored this image of The Dude in action.
Tron Legecy will be released in 3D on December 17.
I have all of eleven fingers crossed for this one
