I’ll be honest here: I must be one of the few people who couldn’t care less about Tim Burton’s upcoming remake of Alice in Wonderland. The book is one of my favourite fantasies and Burton was once one of the best directors around, but over the last ten years his output has been a little too commercial and uninspired for my liking. Big Fish aside (and, to a lesser extent, Corpse Bride), Burton has produced one overrated mediocrity after another: Planet of the Apes, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. And recent news indicated that instead of adapting his ‘80s short Frankenweenie into a 3D feature he will instead be pointlessly remaking yet another classic, Sleeping Beauty.
Frequent collaborator Johnny Depp has also become something of a disappointment in their latest outings, with his turn as Willie Wonka coming across too over-the-top, whilst his appearance in Alice in Wonderland seems nothing special. In fact, perhaps the only reason to watch this movie could be the fact that ‘80s loon Crispin Glover will provide his usual oddball support as Knave of Hearts. JoBlo scored some images from the movie this week and fans can finally see what Glover (known to Jason fans as ‘Dead Fuck’ Jimmy from Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, and to everyone else as George McFly in Back to the Future) looks like in his latest role.
