For all those who get tired of pretentious and dull horror movies trying to pass themselves off as art there’s always Troma.
The New York-based empire, launched by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz back in the 1970s, has spent the last twenty-five years at the forefront of the independent scene, spewing out a string of camp and cheesy classics that began with The Toxic Avenger in 1985.
They have been responsible for the earlier successes of the likes of Kevin Costner and Samuel L. Jackson, whilst influencing such filmmakers as Peter Jackson.
Whilst their VHS and DVD releases have been rather poor quality, Troma are now bringing two of their most popular features to blu-ray. Class of Nuke ‘em High and Tromeo & Juliet, released in 1986 and 1996, respectively, are set to make a comeback as glorious unrated director’s cuts.
The latter will be released on March 30, whilst Class of Nuke ‘em High will arrive the following month on April 27.
