Devin Reeve has successfully balanced a career as both a producer and actor over recent years, with minor roles in The X-Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a production résumé that includes the long-awaited splatter flick The Kentucky Fried Horror Show and the upcoming 3-D feature Humpty Dumpty. The latter sees him collaborating with director David R. Ellis (The Final Destination), producer Mark Ordesky (The Lord of the Rings) and special effects veteran Harvey Lowry (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).

Devin Reeve discusses his work on Humpty Dumpty…
You were previously attached to The Kentucky Fried Horror Show, which seemed trapped in production hell for several years, how did you come to be involved with Humpty Dumpty?
“Yeah, Kentucky was in production hell for several years, but I’m happy to announce that ever since Harvey Lowry and I bought all the rights to the project that it is finally happening. We start principal photography in March, 2011, so I’ll have a lot of updated information for you regarding The Kentucky Horror Show very soon. As for Humpty Dumpty, my good friend Larry Layfield got me involved in the project. He works for Suzanne de Passe and Madison Jones at dePasse Jones Entertainment, who are the producers of Humpty along with Mark Ordesky, who executive produced The Lord of the Rings triology. At the time, they were in search of someone to handle all the EFX on the project, so I suggested two time Oscar winner Harvey Lowry. So Larry set up a meeting with us all and afterwards it was clear that this was the perfect team that could make this project come to life and thankfully we all moved forward. Harvey came on as an executive producer and EFX supervisor and I came on as an associate producer to work alongside my friend Larry Layfield. As an actor and producer, I have dreamt of working on a project of this magnitude with talented executive as the ones at de Passe Jones Entertainment and Amber Entertainment. I’m very honoured to be a part of Humpty Dumpty and looking forward to making this a hit franchise.”
The title is somewhat misleading, how does it relate to the plot and what is the basic premise??
“The basic premise came from a Louisiana urban legend. Legend has it that Humpty is born from an act of anger and rage against his alien mother. His mother, who was on earth collecting DNA samples in the swamp, was capture, kidnapped, raped and tortured by some backwoods rednecks. Escaping, she makes it to the swamp where Humpty is born. After watching his mother die, he sets out to get revenge on the townspeople and the man who is his father. Humpty gets his name from his looks. When he is born he is attacked by ravaged racoons that eat his body, so all that is left is his egg shaped head. He does grow arms and legs but you will have to wait and see how that happens.”
What should fans expect from the movie; how gruesome will the special effects be and how does it feel to be working with Harvey Lowry once again??
“This is one of the most original and interesting stories I have read in my fifteen years of making films. All the components are there; great story, great characters and great EFX. The fans will be very excited and surprised, as they are in for one hell of a ride. With Harvey at the control of the EFX, you know it’s going to be big but real, so there will be plenty of gore for all the fans to enjoy. Humpty has no compassion and takes no prisoners, so we get to have a lot of fun with this one. I promise we will not let you down. Harvey and I have built a great friendship over the years, which has also lead to a great working relationship as well. Besides Humpty, we have several other films coming up including The Kentucky Horror Show, which we are both producing and I’m also acting in, and Murphy’s Creek, which I’m the executive producer, Harvey is directing and Ralph Singleton is producing.”
Was the 3-D aspect purely for commercial reasons or do you feel it is integral to the story??
“With all the great EFX and action, shooting on 3-D will only enhance the Humpty Dumpty experience for the fans.”
Director David Ellis has already worked with 3-D on The Final Destination, did he have any reservations about working with the technology once again??
“None at all. David is very excited about the project, just as we all are.”
How did the graphic novel come about and who is developing it?
“Madison Jones from de Passe Jones Entertainment came up with this great idea. Billy Majestic, who is the creator of Humpty, already had several images created and I think that sparked the idea. I’ve seen some of the graphic novel and I’m telling you it’s insane. The detail is unbelievable. The fans will go crazy over this.”
How far through pre-production is the feature and when do you intend on it being released??
“That’s top secret information but fans can get all the current updates at the office Humpty Dumpty website at humptydumptymovie.com.”
