NEWS – Simon Pegg Finds Clip from US Spaced Remake

If modern Hollywood is anything to go by, it seems that the American media treats its citizens as dumb zombies that are incapable of watching anything that wasn’t produced in their own country. But it’s not just movies that are getting remade as shallow and juvenile nonsense, as studios have been milking as many British sitcoms as possible and reproducing them with the same kind of irritating schmaltz that they gave Friends.

Men Behaving Badly, Red Dwarf, The Office… the list goes on. One show that thankfully never took off was Spaced, a pointless rehash of the cult Simon Pegg show from a decade ago, which saw two twenty-somethings sharing their flat and lives with an assortment of oddballs.

The US counterpart, which replaced the tortured artist Brian with the extremely irritating Christian (Federico Dordei), failed to gain much attention, but Pegg – who has remained silent about his thoughts on the remake – has posted a link to a YouTube clip on his Twitter page.

What makes the remake all the more pointless is that Spaced was not an overly British show and would incorporate both American humour and references to Hollywood movies. But instead of an involving and stylish show (directed by Shaun of the Dead’s Edgar Wright), the result was an extremely childish and pathetic sitcom that lacks any kind of memorable aspect, aside from how shite it is!

NEWS – Rob Zombie Confirmed for CSI: Miami

Rob Zombie has finally taken a break from reinventing the Halloween franchise into trailer trash sleaze to take a trip to the small screen. Over the last few days there have been rumours circulating that the rocker-turned-filmmaker was flirting with the possibility of shooting an episode of CSI: Miami. Following in the footsteps of Grindhouse collaborator Quentin Tarantino, who shot the double episode Grave Danger for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation back in 2005, Zombie has commenced work on an episode for the hit CBS show.

‘I am very excited to be working on a show that has such an intense and unique visual angle on the classic crime drama formula and look forward to putting my own bizarre stamp on the world of CSI: Miami,’ Zombie told Blabbermouth. The spin-off show first began back in 2002 with David Caruso in the lead role of Lieutenant Caine. Zombie, meanwhile, first turned to directing with the cult ‘70s throwback House of 1000 Corpses, but last year’s Halloween II succeeded in alienating much of the fan base.

NEWS – BBC’s Being Human is the Latest to Get the Remake Treatment

It seems that American studios can’t keep their hands off anything, with their latest pointless remake being of the recent BBC horror series Being Human, in which a vampire, werewolf and ghost shared a house. Created by occasional Doctor Who writer Toby Whithouse, the show was first aired in early 2008 and has since gained a cult following. As has become the norm with both movies (The Ladykillers, Get Carter) and TV shows (Spaced, Men Behaving Badly), American producers have decided that instead of importing the series they will simply make their own version.

The Futon Critic’s Brian Ford Sullivan has stated that ‘husband-and-wife duo Jeremy Carver (Supernatural) and Anna Fricke (Privileged) have been tapped as the writers’. Alternatively, you can simply visit BBC iPlayer and watch the original version.
